I’m Hannah, the Kitchen Sloth!

I love to cook and I love to eat. The Kitchen Sloth was born because even though the kitchen is my happy place – LIFE IS BUSY. I love any kind of kitchen shortcut or trick that will get me to delicious food in less time with less stress. Look for my Sloth Shortcuts in my recipes – tips, tricks, and recipes that simplify yummy food. Amazing food does not have to be time consuming or complicated!

My alternate sloth life is a PhD chemist. I teach college Chemistry classes, including a Science of Cooking class, and I love to learn and teach the science behind food. I like to throw in a few Sloth Science bits from time to time. While I love all science, my favorite kind of science is the kind you can eat (in the kitchen lab… not the chemistry lab!)

I chose the Sloth because well… let’s face it, sloths are awesome. Also, I am an enneagram 9 (read more about the enneagram here) and sloths are our mascot… or maybe it’s core weakness or sin or something… I choose to say mascot. Whatever you call it, I enjoy relaxing, less time stressing over dinner and more time with the people I love, on the patio, with a glass of wine… or the patio, a good book, and a glass of wine. This picture might be a more accurate depiction of me in my natural sloth state.

My unofficial taste tester and partner in crime is Mr. Sloth (David). We met in college (go K-State!) and have been together ever since. We love a lazy introverted weekend, good margaritas, and spending time with our pups- Beau and Josie.

They are angel dogs. Only once have they eaten an entire, freshly baked apple pie off of the counter. Only once have they stolen a dozen eggs and enjoyed them on the couch and living room carpet. Only once have they eaten entire sandwiches from the table in the blink of an eye. They can do no wrong.

We also have two cats (Willie and Sunny) but they have elected to remain out of sight at the present time, as cats do.

Over the years, I’ve collected some ideas on simplifying yummy food – usually out of desperation to get into the kitchen with minimal time to create something delicious. I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as I enjoy cooking (and eating) them, and that you still have some sloth time left after cooking to binge watch an entire season of something on Netflix.
